SIGHTS NEAR OUR FORMENTERA HOLIDAY ACCOMMODATION.

When hiring our holiday apartment this should help you in finding your way around Formentera and suggesting the best beaches, restaurants we enjoyed and tips about parking. When you have booked I will be happy to send more detailed information of how to find the places we mention.

BEACHES

Formentera is virtually surrounded by beaches but the most popular ones are on the Trocador peninsula or Platja Mitjon. The latter is virtually one long beach covering most of the southern coastline of the island. There are numorous beach bars and restaurants well spaced out along the beach.

The Trocador peninsula is part of a National Conservation Zone where no more buildings of any sort are allowed to be built. It has almost continuous beaches on both sides of the peninsula.

ILLETES BEACH
As you look at the peninsula on a map, most of the beaches on the left hand side of the peninsula have beach bars hiring sun loungers, beach umbrellas and also water sports for hire on some of them, notably Illetes Beach.

LEVANTE BEACH
On the other side of the peninsula is Levante (llevant) beach which stretches virtually from Es Pujols right to the tip of the island. There are only two beach bars along this coastline - Kiosco Levante and the Tanga Bar and it is only close to these that you will find sun-loungers and beach umbrellas for hire.

Another small beach that is superb for snorkelling and feeding the fish is between Es Pujols and Levante called Ses Canyes.

bold]Beach Etiquette and Clothing[/bold]

On Formentera, swimming costumes are considered optional except for anywhere in close proximity to a beach bar or restaurant. If nudity offends you it is best to keep to these areas. However, most people quickly find that it is so natural here, not at all offensive & with absolutely no pressure to either wear or not to wear a costume, that their attitude to nudity softens and they visit the beaches that they find the most appealing irrespective of whether most people have clothes on or not.

RESTAURANTS

There are countless restaurants on Formentera catering for almost every style imaginable, local, Chinese, Argentine, Italian and even Sushi. Most of them are of good quality and I have seldom had a poor meal, but of course owners and chefs change, so what may be a favourite one year may not be so good the next. Here are a few which have been good for some time.

Sa Palmera; S'Averadera; La Barca; Capri; Ma Vie; all in Es Pujols;
Can Forn in San Ferran for local cuisine; Sa Platgeta near to Ca Mari on Playa Mitjorn. For breakfast try the pastelleria Isla Blanca and to help your meal digest, why not have a coffee and a brandy or maybe try the local Hierbas con hielo and the place serving the biggest tot is the Sa Volta on the corner at the centre of the resort. For fabulous sunsets go to Sa Sequi near La Sabina

PARKING

Parking is almost always available in the road outside the apartment although it may get full up late in the evenings when people come into the resort for the restaurants and bars. The next road up, carrer de fonoll mari, offers more spaces and is only a short walk away.
